Game-On[/size]
Professor Xavier watched as his students tested the limits of their strength in his newly built training room appropriately named the Danger Room. The room was littered with hundreds of deadly traps designed to test not only the students' mutant abilities but also their ability to adapt to any situation that may arrive while out in the field. The professor watched as each of his students performed admirably, but there was no question when it came to who out of the five was performing best.
The student's name was Scott Summers but he was better known by his codename Cyclops, named after the mythical one eye beast that terrorized sailors. You see Scott's power manifested as a solid beam of energy that could be fired from his eyes at will, unfortunately due to an accident in his youth Scott lost the ability to control his powers and was forced to wear a set of specially designed ruby quartz sunglasses that kept his power in check. Professor Xavier took the design of the glasses and worked them into a visor to wear on the field leaving the impression that Scott only had one giant eye.
Scott was a natural leader, constantly stepping up and offering guidance and dishing out orders both while on the field and in the danger room. He was a brilliant strategist that always had a plan for any situation, it wasn't long before the team started turning to Scott whenever they doubted what to do next. Their respect for Scott as well as his natural ability on the field led to the professor naming him field leader of the newly formed X-Men. When news broke out everyone applauded their teammate and one student went a step further wrapping her arms around the boy in a warm embrace.
The girls name was jean Grey and she was perhaps the most powerful of all the students. Jean's power was the ability to lift any object she focused on with her mind, furthermore she had the ability to read minds much like the professor himself. Of course she was nowhere near as powerful as the professor but her potential was unimaginable. When the professor found the young girl she was cowering in her bedroom as everything around her was floating in the air. Jean like Scott had a problem controlling her abilities but after many one on one sessions with the professor she was able to get enough control to not be a constant threat to herself or those around her.
Jean was a very fetching young woman with long fiery red hair, as such it was no surprise that Scott was instantly attracted to her. He would watch her from afar and was only able to say more than two words to her when in the field or in the danger room, whenever he tried to talk to her on a non team level he would freeze up and stumble over his words. Scott would watch with jealousy as one of the other teammates constantly hit on the girl of his dreams.
The teammate's name was Warren Worthington III. Warren was the son of a wealthy businessman and as such had the kind of cocky self centered attitude that men of wealth sometimes develop. He wasn't afraid to walk straight up to Jean on her first day and introduce himself. From that day forward Warren was constantly pursuing Jean doing whatever it took to gain her affections. Jean would wake up surrounded by bouquets of flowers on a nearly daily basis, once she found her way around this jungle of flowers she found herself surrounded by whole wardrobes of clothing that wouldn't even be released to the public until the following year. In most cases this would cause any girl to fall in love with Warren but Jean had already made up her mind. She wanted Scott and nobody else mattered.
Xavier continued watching as the students struggled to topple the challenges of the Danger Room. He watched as the youngest student a young man named Robert Drake used his mutant ability to freeze a nearby turret before it could fire off any shots. Robert turned away from the turret and started performing a victory dance oblivious to the arrival of a second turret rising from the ground. The turret started firing directly at the young mutant who managed to turn around just in time to see the bullets coming straight toward him. He tried to shoot out a blast of ice energy to freeze the bullets but his fear sapped him of his ability to concentrate. Robert would have been a goner if it wasn't for the timely save of his fellow teammate that swooped down and wrapped an arm around the boy before jumping into the air narrowly avoiding the bullets.
Bobby's savior was named Henry "Hank" McCoy but his codename was Beast. Hank's power manifested as superhuman strength and agility. He was able to lift impossibly heavy objects and use his fantastic agility to leap higher than any average human could. The only downside to his power was the unnaturally large hands and feet he was forced to live with his entire life. Hank spent his whole life having to deal with the cruel jokes that kids and sometimes even adults would constantly attack him with. As a result of the constant ridicule Hank found himself being drawn more and more towards academics. He would hide himself inside his books until he became the smartest student in his school. Hank was on the fast track to being one of the smartest men in the world but he was still attacked on a daily basis for being "different". Eventually the professor found Hank and offered him a spot in his school, after years of being an outcast Hank had finally found somewhere he belonged.
The professor smiled as he thought about all the great adventures these five students would go on. He thought of all the sights and sounds they would experience and how those experiences would mold these young students into fine adults. It wouldn't be all sunshine and happiness though, the professor knew that his students would face hardships that could potentially destroy them. Having to constantly defend and protect a general populace that both hated and feared them would be taxing on anyone. On top of that there was the constant threat of the X-Men's most feared and vile enemy, Magneto. As a young man Magneto had survived the horrors of the holocaust and when he grew to be an adult found a stunning number of similarities between the holocaust and what was happening nowadays with his fellow mutants. Instead of working with Xavier to build a strong bond with the normal humans, Magneto pulled away from his old friend and started waging war on the human race. He was determined to make the mutant race dominant on Earth and refused to play second fiddle to these mere humans.
Professor Xavier shook the doubts away and silently rolled out of the danger room. The professor was excited to try out his latest invention, a tool that could potentially be used to find thousands possibly even millions of mutants all across the globe. He dubbed his creation Cerbro, all the professor had to do was attach the machine to his head and he'd be able to see any nearby mutant signatures. With time he would be able to expand the range of the machine and find mutants anywhere in the world. It was with this machine that Xavier would bring together the mutants of the world and make the world a better place.
This is the story of how the X-men became what they are today. This is X-Men: First Class.
